RFID Tag

In its most basic form, an RFID tag is made up of three parts: an antenna for transmitting and receiving signals, an RFID chip (or integrated circuit, IC) that holds the tag's ID and other data, and a housing. RFID tags are attached to goods so that they may be tracked with the help of an RFID reader and antenna.

RFID tags use radio waves to provide data about an item to an antenna/reader pair. The energy for passive RFID tags comes from the radio waves emitted by the reader, rather than from a battery. When the tag receives a transmission from the reader/antenna, the energy is directed to the tag's chip through the internal antenna. The energy activates the chip, which modulates it with the appropriate data and then sends a signal back to the antenna/reader.

There are four memory banks on each chip: EPC, TID, User, and Reserved. Depending on the bank and what has been defined, each of these memory banks stores information about the tagged item or the tag itself.

Hundreds of distinct RFID tags are available in a variety of forms and sizes, each with its own set of capabilities and options tailored to varied environments, surface materials, and applications.

Types of RFID Tags

Because there are so many different RFID uses, there are also so many different RFID tags and classification systems. RFID inlays vs. RFID hard tags is a typical technique to categorize RFID tags. Inlays are less expensive, ranging from {qesy:info}.09 to .75 depending on the RFID tag's attributes. Hard RFID tags are more durable and weather resistant, with prices ranging from .00 to .00.

RFID Inlay, RFID Label, RFID Card, RFID Badge, RFID Hard Tag are all examples of form factors.

LF, NFC, HF, UHF Passive (902–928 MHz, 865–868 MHz, or 865–960 MHz) RFID tag frequency range

Water resistance, ruggedness, temperature resistance, and chemical resistance are some of the environmental factors to consider.

Shape, size, text, and encoding of custom RFID tags

RFID Laundry tags,RFID temperature sensor tags, RFID labels, RFID stickers, micro RFID tags, and RFID security tag are some of the features and applications available.

RFID anti-metal tags, RFID glass  tags, and RFID tags for liquid-filled goods are some of the surface materials available.

 RFID tag price

The price of a RFID tag is determined on the type of tag and the quantity ordered. As previously stated, inlays normally range from {qesy:info}.09 to .75, whereas hard tags range from .00 to .00. In comparison to standard off-the-shelf tags, the higher the amount of customization or the more specialized the tag, the more expensive it will be.

How to buy RFID tags?

What kind of surface are you going to RFID tag? On metal, plastic, wood, and other materials?

What reading range are you looking for?

Limitations on size (e.g., the tag can't be bigger than x by y by z inches)?

Are there any extreme environmental factors to consider? Extreme heat, cold, wetness, impact, and so on?

What is the method of attachment? What materials do you need? Adhesive, epoxy, rivets/screws, cable ties, and so on?

The key to selecting a RFID tag is to test a range of tags on the items you want to tag in your environment. RFID tag sample packs can be tailored to your application, allowing you to narrow down the tags that are best suited to your needs.
