What is the long-range RFID tag?

An RFID antenna and an integrated circuit make up a simple UHF long-range RFID tag.

RFID antenna-The RFID antenna is a necessary part of the RFID tag, and its duty is to accept RF waves, power the IC, and then backscatter the modulated energy to the RFID antenna.

UHF chip-The integrated circuit, often known as the RFID chip, comprises four memory spaces, processing information, send and receive information, and anti-collision protocols. Each UHF chip type is distinct, and only a few companies produce them. The number of bits in the individual memory space is the fundamental difference between UHF ICs.

The following are the four memory spaces:

The Electronic Product Code (EPC) Memory space stores the Electronic Product Code, which can range in length from 96 to 496 bits. Some companies utilize a randomized, one-of-a-kind number, while others use a series of random numbers.

The User Memory space can range from 32 bits to over 64k bits and is not included on every IC. If the UHF tag has a User memory space, it can be used to store user-defined item data. This could include details such as the item's kind, last service date, and serial number.

Reserved Memory space - The Reserved Memory Bank includes the access and lock passwords that allow the user to lock the UHF tag memory and require a password to see or edit the tag memory.

TID Memory space- The UHF Tag Identifier is a randomized, unique number that is provided by the manufacturer and cannot be modified in the TID Memory space. To allow the reader to read this number instead of the EPC, the reader's settings must be adjusted.

It is critical to examine the EPC number of a tag before purchase because it is possible that it is not unique. “Unique, randomized EPC number” or “Not guaranteed to be unique” are examples of specifications (or some similar phrase). If you buy a tag that doesn't have a unique randomized EPC number, it might need to be reencoded with a new, unique number. RFID readers can't tell the difference between two tags with identical EPC numbers.

Each tag's EPC number is read to identify both the tag and the item it is attached to. The tag will merely read the EPC number if no software is used; however, by including software, it is possible to correlate that number with a name, serial number, or even a picture in a database.

What is the maximum read distance of UHF RFID tag

Generally speaking, RFID tag maximum read distances are as follows:

125 kHz and 134.2 kHz tag Usually 10 cm (4 inches)

NFC and MiFare 13.56 MHz tag Usually under 1 meter (3 feet)

EPC and RAIN RFID  tag  860 ~ 960 MHz

Usually over 2 meters (7 feet)

Purpose built tags work over 16 meters (53 feet) away.

So the passive long range RFID tag is UHF tag

Our long-range RFID tags are passive comply with EPC class1 gen2, so they do not need batteries. Standards organizations are actively developing the standards necessary to make RFID more widely deployable, which includes ISO and IEC as well as EPC Global; in 2009, ISO/IEC integrated UHF EPC Gen 2 into ISO 18000-6 as Mode C.

RFID UHF bands vary in different countries and include frequencies between 860 MHz and 960 MHz (EPC global standard).

UHF passive RFID tags how to get long read distance

RFID is a group of technologies, usually identified by the frequency or "wave" they use. The maximum distance you'll achieve is influenced by;

The Operating Frequency (or bandwidth if multiple frequencies) of the RFID system

The most important characteristic in RFID system performance is range, or the maximum distance over which an RFID reader can either read information from, or write information to, the tag. Tag range is defined in terms of a successful read/write rate, expressed as a percentage. The rate will vary with distance, but it also depends on the RFID long range UHF reader’s characteristics and how the operating environment effects the propagation of the signal.

The RFID Reader and settings of the reader for the system

The Antenna - Type, Gain(dBi),Center Frequency, VSWR, Polarization, Size, IP rating

Characteristics of the RFID Tag - Size, shape, polarization, tune

The thickness and material the tag is attached to

The material the long range RFID Tag is attached to Orientation of the RFID Tag to the reading antenna

What is used to attach the tag - adhesive, tape, staple, rivet, screw

The environment the RFID solution is being used in

...and several other factors.
